Abstract:
The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group, or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current wildland fire locations and perimeters in the continental United States and Alaska. Perimeters are submitted to GeoMAC by the incident commands via FTP and web sites for downloading. This file contains all wildland fire perimeters that were submitted to GeoMAC by the incidents for the current year. The projection is geographic and the datum is NAD83.

Perimeter data displayed in and delivered by the Geomac application is not the final or official perimeter for any incident and is provided for informational purposes only. The final official perimeter should be obtained from the host unit which can be determined by looking at the Unit Id for any specific fire. The host unit is responsible for producing official and final perimeters for all incidents in their jurisdiction.

The wildland fire perimeter data are evaluated for completeness and processed to reflect consistent field names and attributes: Attributes are added to shapefiles according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards (<http://www.nwcg.gov/pmu/pmo-archive/products/stds/gdl_fire_perimeter/cover.htm>) to include: TIME, COMMENTS, DATE UPLOADED, YEAR, and ACTIVE which are populated as appropriate. AGENCY, UNIT ID, FIRE NAME, and FIRE NUMBER are also populated according to FIRECODE information (https://www.firecode.gov) .
