description:
|
This map contains the terrestrial ecosystems data for South America developed during a Nature Conservancy and NatureServe collaboration to model ecosystem distributions. This data represents the first continental effort to model the distribution of terrestrial ecosystems using a geospatial mapping methodology developed from a deductive, biophysical stratification approach to delineate ecosystems by their major structural elements (Sayre and others, 2008). The major structural components of ecosystems were modeled (bioclimates, land surface forms and surficial lithology) and then spatially combined to produce a set of unique ecological attributes. Additional information and access to this data is available at https://rmgsc.cr.usgs.gov/ecosystems/. |
